MIAMI-Florida State Representative Scott Plakon, R-Longwood, and State Senator Aaron Bean, R-Jacksonville, have jointly filed HB-43/SB-110, "Clergy Protection Act", for the upcoming 2016 statewide legislative session in Tallahassee.
The proposed legislation prohibits discrimination against ALL religious non-profit organizations, including churches, who believe marriage is the union of one man, one woman. HB-43/SB-110 “provides that churches or religious organizations, related organizations, or certain individuals may not be required to solemnize any marriage or provide services, accommodations, facilities, goods, or privileges for related purposes if such action would violate sincerely held religious belief; prohibits certain legal actions, penalties, or governmental sanctions against such individuals or entities.”
Christian Family Coalition (CFC) Florida issued the following statement:
"On July 17th, CFC Florida launched the clergy and religious institutions tax-exempt protection act to protect pastors from having to perform homosexual so-called 'marriages.' Thousands have already signed our petition with more Florida voters adding their names everyday. We applaud Representative Plakon and Senator Bean for taking the lead on this critical issue of equal rights for all people of faith. This crucial proposal is urgently needed as efforts are already underway to strip faith-based organizations of their tax-exempt status just for believing marriage is the union of one man, one woman. CFC Florida will direct all its efforts to ensuring passage of this legislation in the upcoming 2016 statewide legislative session."
